Text Lists Return to Versions  Previous Feature  Next Feature
Text lists can be attached to a text question so that a respondent can select their answer from a drop-down list. Their answer is stored as text (just as it would if they had typed it) but they must choose from the list - they can not enter freeform text. The use of a text list has the following advantages:

The text entered will be consistent (no spelling mistakes etc.) because the answer is chosen from a list rather than entered manually
Data entry is quicker because selecting from a list is generally quicker than typing an answer
There are no limits on the number of items that can be in the list. Therefore a text list could be used instead of a range-of-values question if you have too many possible answers (ie. the number exceeds the maximum number of values allowed in a range-of-values question).
