Professional Quest Feature

Mirror creation for Remote SQL Databases Return to Versions  Previous Feature  Next Feature
If you need to use a remote SQL Server Database (such as a SQL Server database that is located with your Web server, and is accessed across the internet) data access in Professional Quest will be slower than a SQL Server Database located within your corporate LAN. Using such a database is usually necessitated by the fact that your Web Server (which needs fast access to the SQL Database to store responses) is hosted externally.

Production of reports, and general enquiries can require a significant amount of data access, and the slowness of your connection can become a frustration. This frustration can be overcome by the "Database Mirror" capability in Professional Quest. You can set up a local SQL Server database to use as a mirror of the data located remotely. Whenever you enter a project that uses a mirror, you have the option to either use the "live" database, or use the mirror database. If you choose the mirror, you have the option to update the mirror with the latest data stored on the remote database prior to opening the project.
